What makes a great weekend July 29, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — nikijan @ 5:39 pm
After a never-ending long week of white fluorescent lights, yipping noises, phone calls, differences of opinions, senseless arguements, unnecessary revisions and corrections, ungrateful attitudes, and meaningless excel spreadsheets, any weekend is a good weekend.

To top a good weekend…
  • Start with a nice up of tea in the morning.
  • Smile at the ones you love and remind yourself that is the meaning of you being here in this particular moment of your life.
  • Look out of the window and take in the sun. And remember the day years ago when you did not know what lied in front of you.
  • Remind yourself that there is endless opportunities and there is something in life in store for you.
  • Fill up your stomach with great food.
  • Watch a good show or two, step out and walk around.
  • Look around all these people in their weekend outfit who may be the ones yipping, being yelled at during the week, but they are all enjoying the weekend like you.
And there is a moment in our lives that we are equal again.

Is being complacent about getting 80 out of 100 a crime? July 26, 2006

Lets be objective and think about this before jumping to a conclusion.  Or you will say I’m being stubborn and insensitive.

First of all you would say, "Let’s be adult about this."
I’d say, "If we are all adults, that means we are most likely to be in a work environment, interacting with our colleagues and teammates."

If you agree with me, then getting 80 out of 100 in a work environment means you are performing ok, but missing out on the 20% of your job requirement.
That in a performance review would usually means "good but still requires improvement."

Follow me with this assumption and don’t stop reading coz I’m getting there…

On a personal level, yes, that may be "good". But from the perspective of the other members on the team, that’s probably more like "You need improvement."

Why? Because the 20% you are missing out, is what the rest of team needs to back you up on.  Or of course we can choose to fail the task you work on by 20%.

Now you can say, "But I am not a perfectionist."
My answer to that is, "Then don’t fucking work with me."

Hope I have answered the original question.

Great Japanese Illustrators July 23, 2006

First time I bumped into Japanese computer illustrators (not counting in the usual animes I grew up watching) was actually in Paris. The book MondoFragile Part I has a collection of great up and coming lifestyle illustrators around the world.  They have a website displaying some of the collections online, and under each artist there is a link (if they have a website) to their homepage where more work are posted.

MondoFragile Part II came out already. You can buy these books online:

It’s an eye-opener. I have put up a few that I absolutely love here on the space. Under July photo album are the few on display.
Enjoy.
